Articles you may be interested in Velocity dependence of friction and Kramers relaxation rates Is slow thermal isomerization in viscous solvents understandable with the idea of frequency dependent friction? We present new data on the ground state isomerization rate of DODeI and compare our results to previously obtained excited state data. We find that the one-dimensional Kramers expression does not fit the data over the whole viscosity range when the friction is measured by either the overall rotation time or the solvent viscosity. The deviation is qualitatively similar to that previously observed in diphenyl butadiene when the viscosity was used as the friction measure. Deviations from the simple hydrodynamic theory appear to depend on the reduced frequency for isomerization. We show how our results are consistent with the one-dimensional Kramers theory when a frequency dependent friction is used to describe the influence of the solvent.

PHOTOCHEtnCAL ISO~1ERIZATION VIEWED AS A MODEL FOR ACTIVATED BARRIER CROSSING IN SOLUTION

t1easurements of the influence of solvent on the rate of photochemical isomerization are described. The results are discussed in terms of models of one-dimensional activated barrier crossing. The possible influence of a frequency dependent friction is suggested for isomerizations with sharp barriers. BARRIER CROSSING IN SOLUTION

The Role of Translational Friction in Isomerization Reactions

The hydrodynamic friction used in many comparisons of isomerization reactions with Kramers’ theory is shown to be related to the translational friction. The fractional viscosity dependence of the translational friction of naphthalene is shown to account for the failure of hydrodynamic models for 1,l ‘-binaphthyl in alkanes. The success of the reorkntational model of friction is also discussed. ...

Rotational reorientation and isomerization of transstilbene

We have tested the validity of using solvent shear viscosity as a measure of friction involved in the dynamics of t-stilbene. The rotational reorientation and the isomerization in n-alkanes are considered. INTRODUCTION Ultrafast techniques have made it possible to investigate hydrodynamic theories in the picosecond regime. The photoisomerization of t-stilbene has been widely used to test the Kr...

مسئله شکافت هسته‌ای و معادله لانژون

A combined dynamical and statistical model for fission was employed in our calculation. There is no doubt that a Langevin description plus a Monte Carlo treatment of the evaporation processes provide the most adequate dynamical description. In this paper, we would consider a strongly shaped dependent friction force and we use the numerical method rather than the analytical one. The objective o...
